Several people have been killed at The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. The Baltimore Sun owns the Annapolis newspaper. The Capital Gazette, often referred to as “The Capital,” is one of the region’s oldest newspapers.

“Founded by British journalist William Parks, the Maryland Gazette recorded several achievements during its illustrious history,” the newspaper says on its website.

“In 1767 Anne Catharine Green became the first female newspaper publisher in the country and
the newspaper fought the dreaded stamp tax that started the American Revolution.”

According to The Baltimore Sun resources ,a reporter told them of the shooting on Thursday afternoon. "In east of Washington, multiple fatalities have been reported according to Police."The local ABC7 news reports said.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ron Bateman confirmed multiple people
were killed in a shooting at a Maryland newsroom Thursday afternoon.

The shooting occurred shortly before noon PT at the offices of the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, about 30 miles east of Washington D.C. A sheriff’s deputy has arrested a suspect
near the scene, Bateman said, but the sheriff’s department has not disclosed any information regarding that person.

Annapolis Police Lt. Timothy Seipp said there had been an "active shooter” at the building and
that a subject is in custody.

A young man who listed himself as an intern at the newspaper tweeted out a plea for help around
the time of the reported attack:

According to CBS News, up to four people had been killed.
Phil Davis, who is A reporter for the Capital Gazette, tweeted:
"gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees."
 According to Davis tweet several people have been killed in this historic city which is located an hour east of Washington.

"There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your
desk and then hear the gunman reload," Davis said.

County Sheriff Ron Bateman told Fox News a suspect had been taken into custody.

Marc Limansky, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department Limansky says
he has no details about potential victims and he could not confirm the exact location of the building anyhow officers are searching the building in Annapolis where the shooting was reported.
Anne Arundel police said the building had been evacuated by 12:30 PT and that officers were conducting a thorough search of the area.
